Artificial grass infill is used between grass blades for lawns that aren’t real or artificial. An infill is put down into the fibers to help the grass blades stand up so they don’t have a flat appearance. It also protects the grass backing from ultraviolet rays which could eventually cause damage. Some artificial grass infill options are silica sand, Durafill and GEO Safe Play.
Silica Sand
Silica sand is used as an artificial grass infill. It’s made of natural silica and is sometimes covered with a light coat of rubber. Silica sand is very durable and can be used in areas where there’s artificial grass for sports or other kinds of traffic. Silica sand can be dusty so you may want to use the dust free kind. Silica sand is inexpensive but it can absorb pet odors. The weight of Silica sand keeps artificial grass in place. Always, read the label for any precautions if you use silica sand infill.
Durafill
Durafill is one of the newest kinds of artificial grass infills. This is a safe kind of artificial grass infill because it’s eco-friendly and non-toxic. Other benefits of using Durafill include the prevention of spores and bacteria growth, resists animal urine and it doesn’t contain any heavy metals or silica dust. Nothing external will be absorbed by Durafill. This infill also reduces the growth of micro-organisms. It’s a sealed silicon dioxide and doesn’t get extremely hot from the heat in the summer. Durafill is safe to use as an infill for your lawn and school playgrounds.
Geo Safe Play
Geo Safe Play infill for artificial grass is a natural alternative for synthetic infills. It’s environmentally friendly and is made with natural plant fibers and cork. Some other benefits of this infill are very resistant to wear, eliminates odors, don’t overheat and is resistant to UV rays. It also retains humidity and resists heat absorption which keeps it cooler than a lot of other infills. There’s less sliding on this infill which lessens the possibility of injury. Geo Safe infill is created from materials that are raw or virgin. It’s non-toxic and lead free which makes it safe for athletes, spectators or audiences, children and pets. This infill doesn’t need to be applied more than once.
