A York rake is a brand of landscaping rake that can be used for a variety of landscaping tasks. Several different attachments can be added to the rake, such as wheels or side guards, that make certain tasks easier. Any landscaping job will be easier with the use of a York rake.
Raking
Raking is one of the main tasks that a York landscape rake can be used for. Raking is simple. All that you have to do is set the level of the York rake to just above the ground level. About ? inch higher than the main level of the ground will work perfectly. This height adjustment can be made with the hydraulic lifting system included in most York rakes. Run the tractor over the ground to pick up leaves. The leaves will pile up to the side where they can easily be picked up for disposal.
Filling
A York rake can be used to fill holes with dirt. The rake level should be set to ground level. The rake should just brush the ground, but not dig into it at all. The dirt can then be pushed into the hole with the rake. You can either drag the dirt behind the tractor or you can push it in front. Pushing the dirt in front will probably yield better results. The filling will be easier with a blade attachment that can be purchased separately from the main York rake head.
Rock Removal
York rakes can also be used for rock removal. This is one of the easiest tasks to complete with a York landscaping rake. The rake should be set to a height that just cuts into the ground by about ? inch. Push the rake in front of the tractor to collect rocks. At the end of every row, you will have to get out of the tractor and remove the rocks from the rake blades. York rakes are very effective at removing rocks from yards and garden beds.
Spreading
A York rake can be used to spread dirt, sand, rocks or other materials over the ground. Start with a pile of the material that you want to spread. You can use the blade or regular rake attachment for this task. Set the blade to about ? inch below ground level. This will help the rake to grasp the material and mix it into the ground. Push the rake slowly over the dirt mound spreading it out as you go.
Mulching
A York rake can also be used to mulch leaves, wood and other small items that can be used as mulch. You can use the rake attachment, but the best attachment for this task is the scarifier attachment. This attachment breaks down materials for easier spreading by the main York rake head.
