Shovel
Organic matter
Dig a hole that is 3 feet deep and 3 feet wide.
Fill the hole about halfway with soil and organic matter.
Use some of the soil to make a mound in the center of the tree hole.
Take the wrappings and string wires off the tree and prune any damaged branches or roots.
Place the tree in the hole with the base resting on the mound and the roots trailing down the sides. If there is a graft union check to make sure that it is about 2 inches above ground
Remove soil or add soil to the mound to adjust the tree's height. Give the roots a good drink of a quality starter tonic.
Fill the hole with the remaining soil and pack it gently with your foot.
Water the tree as directed for species.
Tips & Warnings
Use gloves on trees with rough bark.
For heavier trees ask for help from a friend.
