How to Change a Belt and Pully on a Sears Riding Mower
How to Change a Belt and Pully on a Sears Riding Mower. This is what we did with ours. We were told to do this by a mechanic and we kept the instructions. These are general instructions, not based on any particular lawn mower. Good luck!

Things You'll Need
parts list
manual
new belt
some general tools, depending upon your mower
If you don't have a parts list, go to the Sears website. They offer them there. It should show in one of the sketches how and where the belt needs to be routed.
Then go to a sears repair with your old belt and part number and buy a new one. Make sure you compare the belts to each other to make sure they are the same.
If you have a newer mower, there should be a decal on the mower deck showing how the belt is routed. I can't say exactly how to route the belt since I don't know what mower you have. Ours had the decal and there was a sketch in the manual.
Loosen the keepers at the drive pulley and pull the belt down and off.
You may have to disconnect a side of the mower deck.
Slide the belt back on as per routing instructions.
Put the belt keepers back exactly how they were before.
Watch out for idler wheels and make sure the belt is on the correct side.
Tips & Warnings
With the belt under stress
(engaged and in gear but tractor not running) the guides should not touch
the guides. Disengaged, they will touch them; that's what keeps them from
falling off.
I am not a mechanic. I was given this advice by a mechanic. It's best to have your manual with you while you do this. DO NOT TURN THE MOWER ON WHILE YOU ARE REPAIRING IT!!!
