Things You'll Need
Heated growing pad
Baking pans
Composted manure
Mushroom spawn
Spray bottle
Cotton cloth
Select an area for growing your mushrooms that can be kept consistently cool, dark and damp. Basements or closets are often suitable locations for growing mushrooms indoors.
Put 2 inches of composted manure into shallow baking pans. Set the heated growing pad to a temperature of 70 degrees F., and place the baking pans on the pad.
Place the mushroom spawn on the manure in the pans. Do not bury the spawn. Lightly mist the spawn with a spray bottle filled with water. Check the spawn occasionally and add more mist if necessary to keep the spawn moist. The spawn will root in approximately three weeks.
Lower the setting on the heated growing pad so that the temperature of the growing area is between 55 and 60 degrees F. Spread about 1 inch of potting soil over the spawn.
Place a damp cotton cloth over the pan. Check both the cloth and the potting soil regularly, spraying them with water as necessary to make sure they stay damp.
Harvest your mushrooms in about two to three weeks when the caps of the mushrooms have separated from the stems.
