Use a tape measure to find out the length, width and depth of the land that you would like to cover with top soil.
Go to your computer. Open an browser, type "www.csgnetwork.com/topsoilcalc.html" in the url field of your browser and hit "Enter".
Enter the measurements into the fields that are available. The fields consist of the "Width," the "Length" and "Thickness." You can also enter the cost of the soil.
Use each variable drop-down on the Web page. Pick whether the "Width," the "Length" and "Thickness" are in feet or inches and pick whether the soil is sold by the cubic yard or ton, in order to calculate "Soil Cost."
Hit the "Calculate" button. The next section below the variable fields will show how much top soil you will need.
