How to Care for Gerbera Daisies With Leaf Mold
Identify the type of mold that has developed on the leaves. Three common mold diseases that can affect gerbera daisies are grey mildew, leaf spot fungus and white powdery mildew. If you are unsure or unable to determine what type of mold is affecting your plant, have someone, such as your local florist, diagnose the type for you.
Remove the affected areas of the plant as well as the dead petals and other debris surrounding the plant on the ground.
Dry the individual leaves of the plant. Typically, this step can be accomplished with a small soft towel. Pat the leaves gently so as not to cause further damage to the plant by tearing the leaves.
Reduce the level of humidity in the air that the plant is exposed to if possible. If growing the plant indoors, place the plant near a dehumidifier. If the plant is outdoors, it may require transplanting to a different location.
Position the plant so that there is adequate ventilation for all exposed surfaces of the plant. Allowing the air to move freely around the plant will help maintain dry leaf surfaces.
Tips & Warnings
Various plant molds are transferred between plant surfaces by the air. If your plant has been exposed to such a type of mold it is important to treat the plant as soon as possible to prevent further mold growth.
Do not water your plants from above as this causes the humidity to get trapped on the petals and leaves, thus aggravating the problem.
