You can be so very creative with small plants and mini houses and statues. Just use your imagination and create a little village in a large pot! You can put these art pieces in the house near a window, on a porch, or in the flower garden of your home. They are such beautiful displays of plants, very different, and in miniature.
Things You'll Need
Large planting pot
a Bird Bath with a hole drilled in the bottom
Pedestal Planting Pot
Miniature Houses that can stand the weather and moisture
small piece of plastic
miniature gravel and rocks
Many miniature plants and moss
We need to first get a container that you want to use, according to where you want to put your mini garden. You can use a bird bath, a large mouth flower pot, or a pedestal planter. When you have your planter, put some large gravel in the bottom for drainage, and make sure you have a hole in the container. Then put potting soil in the container up to 1" below the top.
Next, choose the scene you want to create. Making a mini village is great fun. Get a little cottage house to put in your mini garden. Plant moss for the grass and yard. Plant succulents and miniature tropical plants for the trees and bushes around the house. Put a gravel path through the yard from the front door of the house. To make the gravel path, lay down a small piece of plastic where you want the path to be. Then put your gravel and edge rocks on the plastic. Put moss up to the gravel path on each side and create your yard. Put the other plants where ever you want trees and bushes in the mini yard.
Next, mist the entire garden with a spray mister every day or at least every other day. This mini garden does not need heavy watering. Just water the tropical plants very lightly at the roots and mist the moss regularly. These mini gardens are such great conversation pieces and make great gifts!!
Tips & Warnings
Use your imagination and create whatever scene you wish into a mini garden!!
This is great for children to make and maintain!!
Remember, they do need light, but not direct sunlight.
I wouldn't put these out where they can receive heavy rains. Put them in sun room, near windows, on porches, and in flower gardens where you can move them to safety if heavy rains come.
