When you run into something, such as a tree stump or curb, with your Craftsman lawn tractor, you will most likely tweak the steering alignment on your rider. This means when you have the steering wheel pointing straight, the front wheels will be turned slightly to the left or the right. You can adjust the steering on the Craftsman lawn tractor so that when the steering wheel is straight, the front wheels will align straight.
Things You'll Need
Flathead screwdriver
Crescent wrench
Sit in the seat of your Craftsman lawn tractor. Turn the steering wheel until the front tires are pointing straight forward.
Pry off the center cover from your steering wheel with the flathead screwdriver.
Unscrew the large steering wheel nut with the crescent wrench. Turn the nut counterclockwise until it is off the steering wheel shaft.
Grab the sides of the steering wheel, and pull the steering wheel off the grooved steering wheel shaft.
Turn the steering wheel in your hands so it is straight and the crossbar is horizontal. Slide the steering wheel back onto the grooved steering wheel shaft. Tighten the nut back on. Push the center cover back on with your hand.
