Things You'll Need
Ladder (optional)
Gardening gloves
Pruning shears
Set up a ladder, if necessary, to reach the fronds.
Put on gardening gloves.
Count the number of new fronds. Make sure to remove fewer in number of the old fronds; never remove a greater number, or you risk killing the tree.
Find the current year's bloom of fronds. Count three rows down from there and start pruning from this third row down. Only prune off the loose, broken and/or brown fronds.
Tips & Warnings
You can cut the fronds at any angle you wish. They will be replaced by new growth behind it.
Take care not to damage the trunk of the palm tree when trimming the palm fronds because there is a good chance the trunk will not heal.
