Vinegar is formed by acetic fermentation of dilute alcoholic liquids that results in a sour liquid, according to The Vinegar Institute website. Vinegar has many uses in your household and, particularly for those who want to avoid using harsh chemicals to clean surfaces and kill weeds. The acidity of vinegar makes it an effective weed killer in your lawn, thus making it easier to keep your yard looking well groomed.
Things You'll Need
Saucepan or microwaveable bowl
White distilled vinegar
Plastic spray bottle
Heat distilled white vinegar in a saucepan on your stovetop or in a microwavable safe bowl in your microwave. This will make it more effective as a weed killer. Heat it until it is very warm but not boiling.
Pour the full-strength vinegar into a clean plastic spray bottle.
Walk throughout your yard and spray each weed with two or three squirts of the vinegar until the weed is thoroughly saturated.
Wait a few days to see if the weed is yellowing or showing signs of damage. If the weed does not have a change in appearance, you may apply the vinegar again in the same manner. It may take two or three applications, each a few days apart, to kill hardier weeds.
