All lawn mowers need maintenance. That is why Honda made it easy to change the oil on their self-propelled lawn mowers. No tools are required. Once the old oil is taken out, make sure it is disposed of properly. Many trash dumps and even car repair places will take old oil so that is can be recycled.
Things You'll Need
Plastic oil pan.
Turn the fuel valve off, which is located on the left side of the motor. Flipping the dial upward will seal off the fuel so no fuel will flow into the engine during the change.
Locate the oil filler, which is on the opposite side of the motor from the fuel valve. It is a small hose with a plastic cap on the end.
Lay a container onto the ground. Pop the filler's cap off.
Tilt the mower on its side, allowing the oil to drip into the pan. Continue until no more drips out. Set the mower down.
Pour one quart of 10W-30 motor oil into the oil filler. Place the cap back onto the mower.
Turn the fuel valve knob downward so that the motor receives fuel.
Tips & Warnings
Any 10W-30 oil will work.
Wearing safety gloves will protect your hand from being pinched when working on the motor.
