Moles are very destructive to lawns and gardens. They are tunnelers, meaning that they will dig elaborate tunnels under your garden that disrupt the root systems of many plants and can kill off a lot of your plant life. The tunnels also require entrances and exits, meaning you end up with large holes all over your property. While a mole population is troublesome, it can also usually be taken care of quickly. Peanut butter is frequently used as an effective lure for moles.
Things You'll Need
Traps
Chunky peanut butter
Load traps with a scoop of chunky peanut butter. You can use non-kill traps that will cage the moles so you can release them elsewhere or you can use traditional mousetraps that kill or maim the mole. Pets and children can also get into mousetraps so use caution when deciding which trap is right for you.
Place the traps outside the tunnel entrances in the yard. The moles will come out of the hole and immediately detect the peanut butter in the trap. Non-kill traps may need to be partially buried into the ground near the hole but make sure dirt doesn't get knocked into the hole itself.
Check the traps every few hours to see if they need to be reset. Moles tend to burrow and sleep in 4 hour shifts on average, so they could come out and be trapped at any time of the day or night, though they tend to be more active when it is quiet outside.
