Olive trees grow at different heights depending on variety. Large varieties like the Frantoio, the Leccino and the Mission all grow to be about 30 feet tall once they reach maturity. Variables like climate, soil and usage (oil or fruit) all have an effect on the size of the olive tree.
Medium-sized olive trees grow to be anywhere from 15 to 30 feet tall once they reach full maturity. The Nicoise olive tree originated in France and is considered to be a medium variety. The Picual olive tree is also a medium variety and grows to about 20 feet tall at maturity.
Small olive trees only reach 15 to 20 feet tall at full maturity. One of the most popular varieties of olive trees is the Arbequina. Koroneiki olive trees grow best in warm climates and are also considered a small variety, reaching 15 to 20 feet on average.
In order to grow an olive tree to a specific size, some olive tree varieties can survive if they are pruned similar to a bonsai, in which branches are cut down and shaped to inhibit the full growth of the plant.
