Homemade Insecticide
Liquid dish soap and water combine to create an effective homemade insecticide against bees. To increase its effectiveness, add hot pepper spray to the mixture. Chop up a hot pepper and pour a pint of boiling water over it. Let it sit for a day, then pour the liquid into a spray bottle. Add a few drops of liquid dish soap to the mixture to complete the solution.
Function
Liquid dish soap contains surfactants, compounds that allow it to penetrate a bee's soft body. This is usually enough to kill bees on its own. Hot pepper spray contains capsaicin, which damages a bee's nervous system. A homemade insecticide that combines the two kills bees on contact.
Considerations
This insecticide is effective on bees and other soft-bodied insects. Spray it with care to avoid killing other insects you find beneficial to your yard and garden. Wear gloves when using hot pepper spray and protect your eyes because it can cause skin and eye irritation if you come in direct contact with the solution.
