By improving the tensile strength of concrete, you will greatly improve the sturdiness of your concrete structure. Adding a chain link fence to your concrete pad is a quick and easy way to dramatically improve the tensile strength of a concrete structure. Concrete with high tensile strength will stand up to more abuse, and you will have a stronger structure.
Things You'll Need
Old chain link fence
Heavy wire
Lumber
Wood screws
Metal supports
Bolt cutters
Lay the chain link fence out in front of you and insert heavy wire throughout the fence to reinforce it. Run the wire in a zig-zag pattern to reinforce the fence both horizontally and vertically.
Create a box around the perimeter of where you will pour the concrete using lumber and screws. Create metal supports that will hold the fence in the middle of the poured concrete. Place the supports all the way along the enclosure.
Cut the chain link fence to fit in the enclosed area using bolt cutters or a saw with a metal blade.
Put the fence in place on the supports. Pour the concrete, making sure the fence cannot be seen.
After the concrete has set, it will be reinforced by the inserted fence. The tensile strength of the concrete will have been increased dramatically.
