Its top fins feature sharp spikes that taper down to a rounded fin on its back. You can determine the gender of a bluegill by looking at its coloring. Making a gender determination regarding this fish may be helpful for breeding, especially if you plan to stock a pond and hope for the fish to reproduce.
Look at the bluegill fish's underbelly. This is located directly beneath its chin, toward the front section of the body.
Identify the bluegill as a male if the scales look bright orange.
Classify the bluegill as a female if the scales look pale yellow.
